After a week back at school we are now well into cough and cold season. Unfortunately some of the symptoms of seasonal colds are the same as those of Coronavirus and if your child presents with one or more of the following symptoms we will have to ask that your child, or the person with symptoms self-isolates for 10 days and any household members isolate for 14 days. The symptoms are:
a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Please be assured that we are acting on advice from the health professionals at Hull City Council Public Health Team and will continue to be guided by their advice through the coming months. We also advise that the person with symptoms is tested by booking a test through the NHS: follow this link to the NHS website.
Please do not buy a COVID 19 antibody test from your pharmacy; we cannot accept the results as they do not show whether or not you currently have the virus.
I understand that having to self-isolate can be very difficult but we will support with work packs for children and food bags if you are struggling to get to the shops.
It is essential that we all work together to reduce the spread of the virus so that we can get back to normal sooner rather than later. Please ensure that you are following all the latest guidance on social distancing, handwashing and wearing a mask.
