Regular attendance at school is essential for children to make the most of their learning potential; children who attend school more achieve better than those who attend less. Apart from very exceptional circumstances children’s attendance should be no lower than 96% over the year; this means children should miss no more than 7.5 days of school in any one year. If your child’s attendance is falling below 96% you will be contacted by the school to make you aware of this and offer support if needed. Parents whose children’s attendance is consistently poor will be asked to provide proof of sickness absence in order to authorise any absence. If a child has a substantial number of unauthorised absences parents may be fined.
